Project 1 Site Analysis

Jalan Tanduk, Bukit Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

Bangsar is a unique location for the final design project - the PAM Learning Hub, located close to the bustling heart of Bangsar yet accessible to the older, residential parcels of Bangsar with its strong-knit communities. It is also home to various commercial, industrial and public facilities, contributing to a quiet but strong creative energy.

The site is near to the current PAM Centre, easily accessible by public transport via the Bangsar or Abdullah Hukum LRT Stations. It is currently occupied by the multipurpose hub repurposed from a defunct printing factory. As part of the site analysis, it includes analysis and summary of the issues related to the PAM Centre and the site contexts, history and future planning through interviews and literature reviews.

APW (A Place Where) -

Our chosen site is currently occupied by APW. Established in 1952 at Lebuh Ampang and relocated at Bangsar during 1960s. From 60s-80s, Art Printing Works later known as A Place Where (APW) was one of the most prolific printers in Kuala Lumpur. This creative campus where arts. culture, business, and technology encourage new forms of innovation to spur the creative economy.

In 2013, an idea was conceived to repurpose the underutilized spaces within the printing factory. Various spaces have since been reimagined to create an urban campus for the community, by bringing together individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds through collaborative workspace, programmes, event venues and pocket parks.
